.......You need staff permission to turn anyone. Period. People bringing in vampires will sit down with staff before acceptance to make sure they understand the run down. This includes people who have been turned in the SL.
.......You cannot play out a turning then bring the character in. If a character is turned all of the bites must be played and logged or it will not be accepted. This means if you have a character you're making for someone who is a vampire [not in the SL] and your character is a human in the SL, the turning must take place once the vampire has been app'd and accepted. Vampires brought into the SL and made inside the SL will be allowed on a limited basis. However, this does not mean play them privately and then put all the logs up. First feeding through the last [up to 5th] must be logged, and put onto the message boards for the staff to read. Bob feeds of Nell on Monday, log goes on the board, let staff know. Bob feeds on Nell on Wednesday, log goes on the board, let staff know - and so forth. Logs of final turnings, deaths, and 'rebirths' must also be logged.
.......New vampires must be taught IC/in play the rules. While the mun may know them OOC, the character would not IC. While we are not looking for scene after scene where these are taught, we need to at least see that the vampire is being taught IC these laws through a log.
Sparkles :
.......Vampires in this world do not sparkle unless you roll them in glue and push them through a vat of sparkles in a glitter factory. If you had to question this, then here is your sign. Odds are however, if you tried to do this with a vampire, it would not have a happy outcome for you.
Who Wants to Live Forever :
.......Vampires live forever, or until someone kills them or they end their own lives. This means your vampire will live as long as they let themselves. Or rather as long as you choose to have them live. If you wish for them to die in the storyline, please contact someone in the staff. Vampires do not age. Period. If they do it is very, very marginal. Say a year for every 100 or more. This means, if you were turned at 14 you're going to look 14 forever. If you were turned at 70, you will look 70 forever. Think of it as the best plastic surgery your soul can provide.
Reproduction :
.......Don't ask. Vampires cannot reproduce. They are dead. No, this is not Twilight, your human-vampire cannot do the horizontal tangle and have children miraculously.
Death is Only the Begining :
.......How to kill a vampire. Simple. Beheading always does the trick. Wood straight through the heart. Even a hollow point bullet completely obliterating the heart would do the trick. As would staking said vampire out in the middle of a field after taking their protection ring. While devistatingly agonizing, it would take hours for this death to complete it's task. If they get free, it is recommended that you run far, far away.
Knock, Knock... Who's There :
.......Concerning entering homes, a vampire must have the permission of someone living inside the house to enter. This means a resident, not just someone staying there for a day or two, or someone crashing the kegger in your house that your kids are throwing without your permission. This includes apartments, or anywhere that is currently a living space for someone, IE, the apartment above a shop run by the human. This permission into the home may be revoked at any time by the person who gave it, or another resident. The vampire must leave, while it's not as if they will go flying out the door, it will become painful for them to be there and they must leave.
Witches, Paranormals, Werecreatures, & Other Vampires :
.......Witches - Witches [male and female] are the vampires ticket to 'normalcy'. Witches provide a vampire with the needed protection against daylight. Respect them. Witches can be fed off of. In fact, their blood tends to be a bit richer and better than a normal humans.
.......Paranormals - Can sense vampires depending on just what they are. More so than any one else, though this does not mean they have 'spidey senses' tingling when a vampire is near by. Feeding from a paranormal person is like feeding from a human.
.......Werecreatures [Shapshifter] - Contrary to some myths and TV shows, werewolves and werecats are not sworn mortal enemies of vampires. In fact, vampires tend to have pacts with werecreatures in their city and surrounding areas, if not their protection during daylight hours. Drinking from a werecreature will not kill the vampire. Instead, at times, this tends to be a vampires first choice in who they would feed from. Because of a shapeshifters many times increased metabolism, vampires can feed more often from a shapeshifter. Where any given human can be fed from once or twice a week without causing harm, any given shapeshifter could be fed from 3-5 times a week without causing harm if they are eating properly. In fact, their blood [especially if it is a stronger, more powerful shapeshifter in their 'pack'] is like human blood with a chaser of a drug.
.......Other Vampires - While you can feed from another vampire, it holds absolutely no nutrition at all. If anything it's more for intimacy. It's not recommended long term.
Appearance :
.......Because the sun is not your friend, the odds are that you will be fairly pale, mind you not pale as death, but you won't be sun tanning any time soon unless you're spraying it on. No, you won't look like a corpse unless you were to be locked up and starved. Then eventually the vampires body would feed off what it had. You don't have claws, you don't have bright red eyes, or gold. Aside from being a bit pale, a vampire could pass for a human. When feeding their faces don't go all oddly veiny like they do in Vampire Diaries, they do not become all animalistic and craggy with a greatly pronounced brow like in the movie Lost Boys and Buffy the Vampire slayer. If they were to cut their hair, it would grow back, however, it would only do this if they were feeding on blood [human, paranormal, were] because it gives them the 'life'.
I Want A Hamburger & Fries :
.......Vampires human can eat human food however in large quantities it makes them ill. IE, you have to go on a business dinner, a date? You could put away one meal and keep it pretty stomached until later. It's not going to be The Exorcist in whatever bathroom you find, but you will be ill. Human food, holds absolutely no nutrition. Unless you're eating raw meat, or close to raw meat. That is easier to stomach. Alcohol can be used to partially cut cravings for blood, and while it can affect the vampire, it would never really get them drunk.
Temperature :
.......Unless the vampire in question has fed, they are a few degrees under room temperature. Their hearts don't beat. Vampires also have no need to breathe, if they do, it does them no good. Heartbeat and warmth comes with blood. More so the warmth. Their hearts can beat if they will it/make it happen. IE, breathing, having warmth and a heart beat allows you to pass for human.
Strength, Speed, & Reflexes :
.......A vampires speed, strength and reflexes have doubled, if not tripped. Mind you that a vampire could not bench press a Buick but they could wrestle against a huge body builder and win. This isn't Twilight, you can't fly. You aren't the Hulk, you can't jump 40 feet straight up though you could climb even with minor hand holds like a cat would a tree. Catlike reflexes, cat like speed. You can't run 10 miles in 2 minutes.
Who Needs Five Senses When You're a Vampire :
.......Senses, they're basic to any creature, living that is. This includes those of the 'deadish' vampire persuasion. As a vampire, your hearing, taste, sense of smell, and eyesight is better than it ever was a human. Your sense of touch is even greatly improved. Night vision is a plus for predators, this goes for vampires as well.
..............Hearing : You could hear a heartbeat one floor below you in a building, hear the footsteps and whispers of a couple 10 blocks away in an alley. *NOTE* This does not mean that you can live on floor 10 in a 21 story building and hear every single heartbeat of every being in the building from the 1st floor to the 21st.
..............Sight : A vampire's eyesight is more greatly improved, especially in the night time, more so that you can see in the dark almost like a cat could. *NOTE* You cannot see as if you were a hawk. You could not see the dew on a leaf 8 blocks away. Think of it like this : the average human has 20/20 vision. With normal lighting, a vampires vision would be 300/20. They can see at 300 feet, what you can see at 20 feet. Without obstruction of course, vampires do not have x-ray vision. They do not have telescopic vision.
..............Smell : Think of it somewhere on the same level as a dogs sense of smell, or even a large cat. They have very, very fine senses of smell which is why a vampire cannot stand the smell of garlic and strong foods. This also includes strong perfumes/colognes. A vampire could probably tell you what you ate for dinner the night before.
.....................A. Vampires can also smell/sense any changes in a humans body chemistry. This means if a human is lying, they can smell the change in chemistry. A vampire could smell arousal on a human. Fear. Any emotion that would change their heart rate or their chemistry, could be heard and smelled.
.....................B. Garlic : It is obnoxious, please do no wear a garland of it around your neck. Vampires don't shy away from garlic because they are "allergic" to it, they avoid it because the smell is so strong that it overwhelms them. If a vampire does not find you repulsive because of the odor hanging around you like a cloud, humans certainly will. This also includes any other foods that have very strong smells to them. Old cheese, onions in large quantities, etc. If it makes a human step back and go "Whoa! That's strong!" odds are, it will make a vampire shrink away. This is because they have better senses of smell than humans. Think.. on a scale with dogs.
Consecrated Ground :
.......In most legends and myth, holy places are not the numero uno hot spot hang out for a vampire. This does not hold true for vampires here. While they probably won't be hanging out in a church and your priest isn't a blood sucker, they can go into Churches, provided they avoid crosses and holy symbols. Graveyards and mausoleums have been known to be a place a vampire could bed down if they were without a protection ring and needed to hide from the sun.
Crosses & Other Holy Symbols :
.......Crosses [Christian], Stars of David [Judaic], Oms [Hindi], it doesn't matter what their religion holds as a religious symbol, it's still going to hurt. If you're Christian and the closest thing at hand is an Islamic crescent moon and star, your faith in God will give it power. It is the wearers/wielders faith in whatever God is 'attached' to the symbol that is what is repellant to vampires. However, there are side notes to this - if the wearer has no real faith in any God, waving a Holy symbol is quite pointless. An atheist waving a cross at a vampire is a truly pitiful sight. [Though if one started glowing around a real believer, it has been known to put the 'faith of God' into them]. It is also to be noted that agnostics are in the gray area. It doesn't matter what symbol you're waving. Generally these will grow quite warm while near a vampire. Like with consecrated ground, the younger you are, the less effect it has on you. Though you cannot escape it. It's quite painful to be around them. [[Please click the small photo near to see what various symbols are of all main religions.]]
Sunlight :
.......In a completely paranormal/supernatural setting, sunlight would be lethal to vampires. However, considering that vampires in this storyline are under the 'plausible deniability' clause, they are not. Keeping this in mind, vampires are highly allergic to the sun. Think the children from the movie The Others with Nicole Kidman. Prolonged exposure to the sun causes burning and blistering, however, if you were staked out in the sun and spent any more than a few hours, you would die if not from the burns, then by the sheer shock and pain involved.
.......You could take a stroll in the park or down the side walk, but this is not recommended for prolonged periods of time, sticking to the shadows is still going to be your modus operandi. It is hard to pass for human while you slowly grow more sunburned and blistered. While all flesh will be affected by burns and blisters depending on your time spent in the sun, your age, and the last time you fed, the more covered you are by clothing the better off you are. However, keep in mind, if it's 110° outside and you're wearing a burka and gloves, you will get odd looks.
..............A. There are ways around this however. If one can find a witch that has the ability to make, and would be willing to make the vampire in question some sort of protective amulet, IE a pendant, a ring, a bracelet; you are much more protected. [Yes, as in the general idea from Vampire Diaries. This once more is a way to allow vampires in this storyline to pass for humans given the 'plausible deniability' clause] Think of this as a full body burka or super prescription sun block during the day. However, this doesn't mean you can go frolic in the sunlight on a beach. You will still burn, but your amulet still gives you a reasonable quantity of protection. Vampires are still very photosensitive, sunglasses will still be needed.
.....................1. These amulets or protective items are generally made of silver, gold, and less commonly steel. They are set with a precious stone either of the wearers choice, or the witches who cast the spell.. More typically those specifically rooted to magics -- stones of choice tend to be: lapis lazuli, agates, amber, topaz, sunstone, carnelian, garnet, and some jaspers. If you have a question on stones or metals, please contact the owner. These amulets will be given to all supernatural creatures, however, all amulets in question must be shown to the owner and staff first. Vampire characters must have a photo of this item in their albums.
Mind Powers :
.......Yes, vampires have these, to a point. They cannot wipe brutal violent memories from a humans mind. The human mind is, in fact, too strong for this. However, if a human has been bitten, or even exchanged partially so much as a mouth full of blood with the vampire, they can be compelled. However, this being said, a vampire could not compel a human to take off all their clothing, lay down and open a vein. UNLESS, they were already sharing blood with the human. To a point, they have some control over humans, if they had a connection with them [once more via blood, please see feeding rules] they could exact a certain measure over the human to calm them down if they were to become over-emotional.
Bats - Mist - Wolves :
.......Don't even ask. We're leaving it at that. You cannot turn into anything. Period. If you do ask, we'll make a special acceptance and make sure you turn into something utterly ridiculous for asking. Like a chipmunk, or a platypus. Nothing says "I'm a deadly blood sucking killer" like turning into a 3oz. rodent or a mammal with a duck bill.
Fangs :
.......Canines. We cannot stress this enough. This is not nosferatu and your two front teeth are not your fangs, you're not a bunny rabbit. This is not True Blood where your incisors flip down like a snakes fangs. It is also not like Supernatural where you have a complete mouth full of Ferengi like teeth that come down when you're about to feed. This is like Dracula with a twist. Your canines when you die, fall out to be replaced with canines that are slightly sharp, at least enough to penetrate the skin enough to draw blood. They are slightly longer than the rest of your teeth and lengthen just a bit more before feeding. There are dentists who can supply a vampire with "caps" for fangs so that they can pass more easily. Vampires tend to get their newly turned prodigies these so that accidents are less likely to happen. [[Please see the pictures to the left to get an idea of what your fangs would look like.]]
Feeding :
.......Contrary to whatever beliefs you see on TV or read in books, you do not need to drain a body. The stomach can only contain so much in liquids or solids. While a vampire could gorge on blood, because it will be 'digested' and absorbed more quickly than a human would food. The blood allows vampires the ability to pass more easily for human. It is not a very smart move to leave bodies laying around; thus, we would suggest not killing everyone you run around and bite. We would also not suggest ripping throats out. It is messy, and there is always a huge clean up job.
.......While you could sustain yourself on animal blood, but it will make you slower and weaker. Consider it as if you eat heavy, fatty foods all the time. Never drink from a corpse, it's dead blood, it will do very little for you, and would probably make you ill.
.......As a vampire you will generally prefer it straight 'from the tap', though you can sustain yourself on blood from a blood bank, when doing this - remember cold blood will be repulsive, the closer to body temperature, the better. You can't just grab a blood-bag, tear it open and drink it cold. Warming it up in say, a hot mug of water, works wonders. A half to a full pint or so should sufficiently keep a vampire satisfied every day or so.
..............Biting a Human & Drinking From Them:: Each bite comes with a small dose of the vampire virus, which after one bite would make the happy meal dizzy from blood loss. [ie. like donating blood to a blood bank] However, the more bites given to the human, the sicker they will become. First bite - a little warm perhaps, not quite what one would feel from say, a minor allergic reaction to a food - however it is fairly minimal and the effects fade quickly within the first day or so. Second bite within 1-2 days, more flu like symptoms however nothing horribly serious; if the vampire did not feed again for another week, the human would recover. Third bite within another day or two, [with the intention to turn] would likely be more serious flu like symptoms. However, if there was no intention of turning, each consecutive bite will make the 'happy meal' more ill. The more bites, the more ill they become until their organs begin to shut down and they die [generally around 10 bites, if the blood loss does not kill them first.]
..............Drinking From a Vampire:: This is a bad idea in general [please see turning rules]. For example, if Bob the vampire and Nell the human are making out and Bob becomes a little frantic and nicks his lip, a few drops of his blood [because his lip will quickly heal] would not harm Nell. However a full swallow of his blood [eg, he opens a vein for Nell] would make her violently ill, and could possibly result in organ shut down. Further example, Bob drinks from Nell on Monday and opens a vein for her and she drinks a swallow from him, she would become ill enough to very probably warrant a stay in the hospital for a day or two or even possibly kill Nell. Yes, it is romantic, feed from your vampire after they have fed from you, but in reality, unless the vampire has bitten you at least two or three consecutive times in a row to allow your body to slowly adjust to the vampire virus, you have a 70-40 chance of dying. This is only in the case of drinking from the vampire. It is very highly ill advised as a practice. Dice will be rolled if this situation happens that a human has fed from a vampire more than a few accidental drops. Deaths and illness' are final.
The Bite :
.......The vampires bite while not orgasmic, and life changing, is enjoyable. There are two enzymes which their bodies kick out when feeding.
.......The bite itself -- Much like a cats bite, the first is slightly numbing and helps dull the pain of having teeth dig into the flesh. This also helps to keep the human docile, if only a bit. It can be addicting, but only to humans who have an addictive personality. Meaning if they become easily addicted to anything [food, drugs, every day things] they are more likely to become obsessed with being bitten by whoever is willing to use them as a happy meal with legs.
..............A. This also has an enzyme that helps blood flow. Think of it like a tiny dose of Tylenol in a bite. It helps the blood flow better.
.......The after bite -- This isn't a bite. However when the vampire has stopped feeding, all that is needed is a quick lick to help slow the bleeding. It also helps the healing process, cutting it down from a few days/a week to a day perhaps less. This way your victim does not bleed out.
Turning Someone Else :
.......This is not Twilight. You cannot get barely nipped and turn. It just won't happen. It is a fairly easy process, rather the beginning stages are. The bite itself also comes with tiny little doses of the vampire virus itself. The virus which makes a vampire what they are is very harmful. If one were to be bitten once, it would pass out of their body within a few days. However, the more often you feed from the same person without a few days rest in between, the more risks you are taking and the more ill they will become. Not to mention, the more you take from the human, the more you are depriving them and their bodies cannot make blood fast enough to make up for the loss of enough blood it would take to sustain a vampire more than perhaps once, or twice a week. However there are supplements the human counterpart could take to help boost their blood production.
.......If the vampire wishes to turn someone they cannot just drain the human the very first time they feed off of them to the point of death and give them a few swallows of their blood and expect the human to survive. The odds of this killing the human is great because that heavy of a 'dose' of the direct virus would be too violent of a shock on the humans delicate body.
.......To turn someone there should be no less than three bites within a day or two of each other. If a vampire is turning their human counterpart because they are very ill and it is to save their life, more than three bites can be advised [though likely no more than 5]. It is advised that the vampire take only a few sips, in fact, they need not even take blood directly. This is needed to merely give small doses of the vampire virus to the human to help prepare the way for the full dose later on when the human drinks from the vampire. Think of it like slowly tapering one's body up to the normal dosage of a drug a doctor has prescribed you.
.......To complete the turn, the vampire must drink until the heart has begun to slow and then allow the human to drink from them. After this, there is no turning back. While the soon to be vampire does not need to gorge themselves on the blood, they will need to have a goodly ammount.
.......The human death is going to be a painful processes, and the turning when they are 'reborn' even more so as the body continues to shut down. However, this process where the human is clinically dead [[when in reality the virus is merely doing what it is made to do by rewriting the DNA]] can take anywhere from 1-3 days. Especially if the turning of the human was meant to save the victims life from a life threatening disease. A normal, healthy human might be "dead" for a day where a human suffering from stage four cancer, might take three days. When they wake, it will hurt because their mind is still fighting to do all that it did when they were human.
.......If newly fledged vampire does not feed within the first 24 hours, they have the potential to possibly die. Their first feeding must be from a living human being, paranormal, or werecreature. It cannot be supplied from a blood bag. However, if there is no happy meal on two legs to be found at the moment they wake, a blood bag can be used to take the edge off until one can be found.
.......The precursor bites need not be from the same vampire, however the vampire which supplies the blood which turns the victim, will form a nearly unbreakable bond. This however, will not be one of obsession, merely help foster a bond between the two.
.......The older the vampire is that does the turning, the stronger the bond. This also helps the vampire to control the urges of the new fledgling so that if they are starving and in danger of attacking someone, the maker can exert enough control to reign in the fledglings urges until food can be found.
.......It is not advised that a very young vampire [IE a year undead, 6 months undead] attempt to turn someone unless they have someone who could help because their own control at this point, is not that great.
.......ALL bites, and the final turning must be logged and read by the staff for it to be accepted.
Vampire "Covens" :
.......There is a vampire hierarchy in every major city. All vampires answer to the master of that city. The master of that city answers to the vampire of that 'region' and so forth. This means all vampires in the Storyline would know each other. New vampires in Salem must make themselves known to the master. Salem's master is Emmerson Garrett, the District Attorney.
.......If a vampire breaks any laws they will answer to the Master, as well as their inner circle.
Vampire Laws :
.......1. Hunts must be inconspicuous, and you must not kill. Mistakes may happen, however if they happen consistently, the vampire will be dealt with accordingly.
.......2. Attention should not be drawn to vampires. This does not mean that you cannot be the next Brad Pitt, this means, you must not let it be openly known that you are a vampire. Do not make yourself a spectacle and make yourself known.
.......3. The creator is responsible for his or her newborn's behaviour and teaching of the laws before they can be released on their own. By letting a newborn hunt conspicuously, the penalty will be death both to the newborn and its creator. Even if the newborn is ignorant of the law, his or her rash acts are still punishable by death. This also means that if you are too young to control the vampire you have created you will be held responsible for their actions if you cannot control and train them.
.......4. You must respect the witch community as they are the very people that give vampires the ability to walk in the sun. There will be no second chances if a vampire were to kill a witch. The vampire will be put to death.
.......You cannot play out a turning then bring the character in. If a character is turned all of the bites must be played and logged or it will not be accepted. This means if you have a character you're making for someone who is a vampire [not in the SL] and your character is a human in the SL, the turning must take place once the vampire has been app'd and accepted. .......New vampires must be taught IC/in play the rules.
Odds are however, if you tried to do this with a vampire, it would not have a happy outcome for you.

..............Hearing : You could hear a heartbeat one floor below you in a building, hear the footsteps and whispers of a couple 10 blocks away in an alley.
